New Feature: The driver now handles the emailing of the temps automatically without the need for extra programming.  Just enter the customers email address in the properties and the driver takes care of the rest! (Note: 4Sight and the Email Agent in Composer must still be enabled).

If your customer has a Wine Cellar, Hot Tub, Fridge, Pool or normal Control4 Thermostat and you want to get notified when the temperature of that area or device goes above/below a custom set point this is the driver for you.  You could do this in Control4 programming, but it's tedious and prone to bugs or issues.  The main problem being that if you send an email based on when a temperature exceeds a particular point you will get multiple emails.  For example if you check when the temp exceed 80°F then you will get an email when the temp reaches 81°F, 82°F and so on.  That’s very annoying.

The solution, The Temp Tracker driver.  This driver takes care of all the Control4 programming for you! Giving you an easy interface and provides a safety event tracker that only allows the event to fire once (this means no more multiple messages).

Driver Features
Creates a Thermostat in

  • the project so user can 'see' the temperature from the Control4 interface
  • Works with Control4 thermostat
  • Works with Heatmiser, Coolmaster and Z-Wave thermostat drivers
  • If other 3rd party Thermostat uses the C4 thermostat proxy then they'll work too.
  • Card Access devices with temperature sensors built in.
  • Three events to report high, low and return to normal condition
  • Features a special 'stop' feature' on the event preventing it firing multiple times.
  • New Event timer reset so dealers can 'keep' pestering somebody that the temperature has travelled outside the normal range (1, 8, 24, 48 hour increments)
  • Special String message for Above, Below and Return to normal so the installer only needs to create one email or notification on the touchscreens.
  • Monitor as many temps as you want by adding multiple instances of this driver to the project (same authentication code for each instance)
  • This driver has been designed to work with Control4 2.6.0 and higher systems.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Just a Control4 System and a Temp sensor (any thermostat or Card Access Piece)

Control4® - Temperature Tracker Driver
Developed by Cinegration LLC

Introduction

You've got a Wine Cellar, Hot Tub, Fridge, Pool or Normal Control4 Thermostat and you want to get notified when the temperature of that area or device goes above/below a custom set point.

The solution is the Temp Tracker driver. This driver takes care of all the Control4 programming for you! It gives you an easy interface and provides a safety event tracker that only allows the event to fire once (this means no more multiple messages).

Some of the home automation techniques that can benefit from this driver are:

Hot Tub water temperature has gone below 95 degrees (sign of a bad motor, heater)
Equipment Room, Cabinet Temperature notification
Refrigerator/Freezer is too hot (nobody wants to come home to a house that smells of rotten food!)
Temperature of the home is below 60 degrees (furnace might be out)
Wine Cellar is getting hot (especially helpful if the wine is insured!)
Etc...
Driver Features
Creates a Thermostat in the project so user can 'see' the temperature from the Control4 interface
Works with Control4 thermostat
Works with Heatmiser, Coolmaster and Z-Wave thermostat drivers
If other 3rd party Thermostat uses the C4 thermostat proxy then they'll work too.
Card Access devices with temperature sensors built in.
Three events to report high, low and return to normal condition
Features a special 'stop' feature' on the event preventing it firing multiple times.
New Event timer reset so dealers can 'keep' pestering somebody that the temperature has travelled outside the normal range (1, 8, 24, 48 hour increments)
Special String message for Above, Below and Return to normal so the installer only needs to create one email or notification on the touchscreens.
Monitor as many temps as you want by adding multiple instances of this driver to the project (same authentication code for each instance)
This driver has been designed to work with Control4 2.6.0 and higher systems.

The BrightSky PushNotify driver complements this driver perfectly enabling you to send warning messages direct to iOS and Android devices. See our website for more details.
Test before you install
Please test this driver with Control4 in your office or shop before you attempt to install on site. We strongly recommend that you follow the examples presented here in a demo environment to gain confidence with the system. We will have little or no sympathy for anyone attempting to install this on a client’s site without having tested it offsite first. Remember you can test the driver free for 14 days.

Driver Installation
The driver zip file contains this manual and the Control4 driver. Copy the .c4z driver file to your My Documents - Control4 - Drivers folder.

Add the driver to your project
First you need to add the driver to your project.

Open Composer
You can then find the driver under Control4 Wireless Thermostat manufacturer Cinegration.

It’s called Cinegration Temperature Tracker.

Add this to your project.

You now need to purchase an activation key from the Extra Vegetables website. You can also try the driver free for 14 days by using demo-yourEVusername as the activation key.
Setting up the Properties
On the Properties page of the driver you will need to enter a few pieces of information before using the driver.

Selecting the Thermostat
The driver now needs to be associated with a real thermostat or temperature sensor. To do this you must click on the Select button next to the Device Selector field. This will then show you all the available devices in the project as shown on the right. Select the device you want to monitor and then press OK.
This will enter a number into the field. Don’t worry what this number is or means, it’s just the internal Control4 Director reference for that object.
Local or Remote
Some devices have both Local and Remote temperature sensors attached. Use this field to determine which one should be monitored by the driver.
Temperature Events
In the LESS_THAN and GREATER_THAN fields enter the temperature values at the lower and upper ends that you wish to monitor. These values should correspond to the temperature scale that you are using on the original device. Example: if the Card Access piece is using C then the driver will receive temperature in scale C. The installer will need to press the Fahrenheit or Celsius button at the top of the driver to tell Touchscreens which scale to use.
Email Strings
These are the email texts that will be sent on the temperature exceeding or falling below the levels set above. By entering the text of the emails here you can save yourself some typing later during programming.
Event Reset Time
This is the time in hours between the event resetting. This is used to determine how often repeated emails or messages are sent to the customer when the temperature is outside of the normal range. A normal message is only sent once. Note: the driver does not keep track of how many times the event was reset.
Connections
If you want to display the temperature to the customer on an interface in a room then you should make a connection from the TEMPERATURE connection to the room. Once these connections are made then the temperature from this driver will appear as a Thermostat alongside any other thermostat in the project for that room. Remember however you cannot make any setting changes to the required temperature using this driver. It is display only.
Sending Messages
Email Messages
To send email messages first create an Email template. Then for the body of the message select the status variable for the driver. You may want to use the subject of the email to indicate which project this email is coming from.

The completed message will look something like the example on the right.

Now switch to Custom Programming and select the Temp Tracker on the left hand side of the window.

You will then see a drop-down box with some custom events.

To quickly program to send an email when the temperature goes above, below or returns to normal select the ALL_STATES option.

If you only want to send a message on a particular event occurring, then select that event from the list instead.

Now from the right hand side select the email template and add that to the programming script.

The completed Script will look similar to that above. This is the only programming you need to do to send emails for all events on this device. Simple isn’t it?
Troubleshooting
If you are having any issues with the driver you should check that you have selected the correct Thermostat device. If you delete and re-add the thermostat you are monitoring in the project then you will need to reselect it in the driver.
